Loggins and Messina House at Pooh Corner LIVE

I couldn't find the NGDB version, but found Kenny Loggins singing Pooh. It's not the version he did at Red Rocks, where my favorite Nashville guitar player Chris Rodriguez plays, but here is a delightful version with Messina.

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band,All Prayed Up with Vince Gill

I'm sorry to report, we are entering the Hip-Hop Co-op bluegrass era. Hopefully, it will be a short phase and I will soon be back to my Paul McCartney phase.

Vince and the Del McCoury band did this little ditty at the Fair.

I was delighted to see he did it with the NGDB. Now that I have the NGDB on my mine, I have to search YouTube for them doing Pooh Corner.

I think I last saw the NGDB at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN in February of 1971. We were all much younger then! However, upon further review, I vaguely remember seeing them somewhere with Mr. D. in the mis-80's, does that ring a bell, Mr. D?

1952 Vincent Black Lightning

We saw The Del McCoury Band with Vince Gill at the State Fair. Here's one of their big numbers.

Favorite lines:
"Red hair and black leather, my favorite color scheme"

"shotgun blast left nothing inside" followed by "when she came to the hospital, there wasn't much left"

and finally,

"there's nothing in this world beats a '52 Vincent and a red headed girl."

The song isn't 9 minutes long. This is a "twofer". The Vincent song is followed by "Get Down on Your Knees and Pray" and then a short interview with Vince.

Should I be worried that Mr. D in recent days has pulled out the banjo that someone gave him a few years back?

He leaned over to me at the concert and said, "If I practice real hard, this is the best I can hope for!"

I love it when they all share one microphone, which they did, I think, for every song at the concert. It was like stepping into the movie "Brother Where Art Thou", which, by the way, I never understood.

My Summer Vacation

We've had a fun and busy summer.
Here's what we've done so far.

Katie had a birthday in May, so we had a party. Here's the traditional family photo by the cake.
Katie likes pirates. Hence, the pirate cake.
Daniel and Katie (not our Katie, the other Katie!) got married. The Marines gave him 3 days off. So, they got married and we had another family party! The bride and groom danced.
Beth and Amy danced.
Terry and Tim went up to Camp Ripley for Boy Scouts, so the girls and I had a party. We went to the Mall of America and had supper at the Twin Cities Grill and then went to Build a Bear Workshop.
Here are the bears we made.
In early June we went up north to Uncle Dick's and Auntie Priscilla's lake home. Tim and Uncle Dick played pool. I don't know who won.
A couple days later we went up to near Crosslake to the lake home of some people we don't know at all, but they had offered their lake home for 3 nights to Terry's sister Diane and her family. Diane and fam didn't really know these people either. We highly recommend going to the lake homes of people you don't know. We had a great time! So, if there is someone that you don't know very well who wants to offer you their lake home, I say, "Go, enjoy!" Here's the gang on the dock.
Mindy decided to roast a marshmallow. It was slow going, so she read a book while it roasted.
This is why it was slow going. It's sort of reminiscent of Parker Posey roasting the chicken wing in Waiting for Guffman.
We did a girl's shopping trip to Crosslake and enjoyed chilled coffee beverages as we checked out the hotel where Erin and David will be having their wedding reception.
Suddenly, making a sand castle was the thing to do.
We played "Mafia". I took this photo from the loft where we slept.
The sand castle was still standing the next morning.
After trip to the lake we came home and a few days later there was a lovely hibiscus flower on my hibiscus plant that I had managed to not kill over the winter. I put it in Beth's hair and took a photo.
Chris had a birthday. We gave him a bistro table for his porch. Katie couldn't resist the box.
Everyone posed by the box before Chris opened it.
We also gave Chris a George Foreman grill. Everyone should have a George Foreman grill. In fact, I believe that statistically everyone does have a GF grill.
We had a family party for Chris. Mark put on Katie's pirate hat.
Aaron came. It's not been a good year for left wrists, fingers, and arms in this family.
Daughters, nieces, and friends. I'm thankful for them all.
I took this picture because my geranium was in full bloom. It was one I had saved over the winter and it looked pretty pathetic by April. But, some sunshine and a little Miracle grow and it was gorgeous.
Let's see. Two great nephews, a daughter, and a niece!
Here it is. The family photo by the cake.
Terry turned into the "Ice Cream Nazi" when he didn't like the way Mindy asked for ice cream. "NO ICE CREAM FOR YOU!"
It was the Fourth of July, so we had a party. The usual, fajitas and homemade ice cream. Here is Beth taking her turn.
We played volleyball in the backyard with a very large beach ball.
Then, it was off to Excelsior for the fireworks. We secured our usual position on the peninsula, settled in, and opened up the Kettle Corn. YUM!
We swam, then the kids played Pit.
When it got dark, we got out the glow necklaces and bracelets. Gotta love the dollar store. You can get a lot of glow items there really cheap.
Terry and I celebrated our 30th anniversary this summer, so the kids had a party for us. Lots of people, yummy food, and lots of fun. Here's the photo.
We wanted a photo of the kids at the anniversary party, so they posed for a nice picture.
Nikki kept getting more pregnant. So, Ann, Amy, and Diana had a shower for her. She got lots of cute things for little "Regis", including monkey booties.
Erin and David got engaged over Memorial weekend, so we had a shower for her. Nikki, Katie and Beth made these fruit pizzas.
Sue gave a talk. We laughed. We cried. And, we were all touched deeply.
Jodi turned 30, so Diane and Steve had a party for her. When I put the ketchup on my hamburger, it came out in a splurt in the exact shape of a heart without my trying. It was truly magical.
Mindy works at Starbucks and gets to see that poster of Paul McCartney every day. Here she is doing her impression of Paul.
Here is Jodi's butterfly cake.
The kids enjoyed looking at John Daker on Jeremy's laptop.
Jodi posed with the hubby, the mommy, and the daddy.
I had a birthday. My mommy took us out to eat and then we had ice cream cake on the back porch like we always do. YUM.
When I was in grade school, I loved Haley Mills. I also have always loved Greece, Crete, that whole Mediterranean thing. My favorite movie was The Moonspinners. Nikki and Mark gave it to me. Doesn't Mom look great. She's 86! I really need a hair cut.
Terry and the kids gave me some comfy clothes.
And that's all the photos I have downloaded so far. Plus, the summer is not over so be watching for: Nikki's family baby shower, the State Fair, and Erin and David's wedding and the arrival of little Regis, the boy-king.

Duncan Hunter vs Duncan Hines

This is Duncan Hunter.
He likes babies, fences, homeschoolers, marriages between men and women, balanced budgets, and guns used for hunting and self defense.

This is Duncan Hines.
He liked cake.

The Teal Honda

The deer won.

This was June of 2002 if I recall correctly. Just found this on Chris's facebook.

Two good things about this.

1) Mike Kapala had been sitting in the passenger's seat a few minutes earlier. He was no longer sitting there--a good thing since there was glass all over the passenger's seat and not a speck of glass on the driver's seat.

2) It was a Sunday night about midnight and Aaron Cox was on his way home from work right behind Chris going 65 mph (or whatever the speed limit was there--I think it's 65) on Cedar Ave (right by the zoo) that June night. Chris had just dropped Mike off and was headed home. Aaron saw the whole thing, (deer running, sparks flying, deer flying!) didn't know at the time that it was Chris, but decided he needed to stop and see if the driver needed help, when he got closer, he realized it was Chris and stayed with him till Mr. D. and I arrived about 20 minutes later. So, hats off to Aaron!

Duncan Hunter?

I found this test at truth v. the machine.

It seems that Duncan Hunter is my man.

Anyone know who Duncan Hunter is?

Fred Thompson came in at number 2.

Dennis Kucinich came in dead last. No surprise there.

Katie took this picture of me with her new laptop.

Quote of the Day

After a few hours of looking at bills and Blue Cross Statements, and also reviewing checks totaling $5,655.00 that we had written to cover my January wrist adventure, Mr. D and I couldn't figure out why we were still being billed for over $400 when our yearly deductible is $5,700 (bless their hearts, they raised the deductible from $5,250 to $5,700 on April 1st).

Finally, after looking at a maze of numbers on several printouts from BCBS, I realized that the very first Fairview bill we had paid in full in February for $1,126.00 (emergency room facility charge) had been for some inexplicable reason resubmitted 4 months after being paid in full.

BCBS had for some inexplicable reason sent them $405 on July 2.

Fairview for some inexplicable reason failed to notify us that we had a $405 credit with them.

I called their business office and was told by the Stepford bookkeeper in a monotone voice that a refund was in the "self credit queue". I said, "The self credit queue?" (I hate when Stepford people use their "Stepford" lingo).

I said, "Why didn't you notify me in a statement that I had a credit coming?"

She said in her Stepford monotone, "Ma'am, I am just doing my job."

I said, "When will I get my check?"

She said, "Four to six weeks."

I said, "Four to six weeks?!!!!"

She said and here's the quote of the day, "WE ARE JUST WAITING TO GET TO IT."

I said, "Just waiting to get to it? What would you think if I looked the bills you sent me last February and gave you a call and said, "You know, I will pay this in 4 to 6 weeks, I'm just waiting to get to it?"

No response.

So, I'm thinking that we should all try the "just waiting to get to it" line and see if it works for us. It is working well at the Fairview Gulag.

Can you imagine what will happen if Hillary or Obama get in charge of health care? Please, I beg you, don't vote for them, it's bad enough already.

The Happy Song

Here's Chris Tomlin singing "The Happy Song" which gets my vote for the worst worship song of recent years.

I like Chris Tomlin. I don't like "The Happy Song".

First of all, it's not really a worship song. It's mostly about "me" and how happy I am and how my heart is bursting. Me, me, me.

Secondly, who says Christians are supposed to be happy all the time?

Yes, we can be joyful always. But, no, not happy always. Different emotions.

Oh To See The Dawn (The Power Of The Cross)

This gets my vote for one of the best current worship songs. When they get to the line "Oh, to see my name written in the wounds", every time I sing this, I tear up and have to just listen and let others sing.

"What a love, what a cost. We stand forgiven at the cross."

A Message from John Piper: Can God Spread a Table in the Wilderness?

According to Ezekiel 34, there are shepherds who ignore their sheep and feed themsleves. God deals with those shepherds and feeds their sheep.

1 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy, and say to them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord God: Ah, shepherds of Israel who have been feeding yourselves! Should not shepherds feed the sheep? 3 You eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fat ones, but you do not feed the sheep. 4 The weak you have not strengthened, the sick you have not healed, the injured you have not bound up, the strayed you have not brought back, the lost you have not sought, and with force and harshness you have ruled them. 5 So they were scattered, because there was no shepherd, and they became food for all the wild beasts. 6 My sheep were scattered; they wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. My sheep were scattered over all the face of the earth, with none to search or seek for them.

7 Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: 8 As I live, declares the Lord God, surely because my sheep have become a prey, and my sheep have become food for all the wild beasts, since there was no shepherd, and because my shepherds have not searched for my sheep, but the shepherds have fed themselves, and have not fed my sheep, 9 therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: 10 Thus says the Lord God, Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require my sheep at their hand and put a stop to their feeding the sheep. No longer shall the shepherds feed themselves. I will rescue my sheep from their mouths, that they may not be food for them. 11 For thus says the Lord God: Behold, I, I myself will search for my sheep and will seek them out. 12 As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his sheep that have been scattered, so will I seek out my sheep, and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness. 13 And I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land. And I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the ravines, and in all the inhabited places of the country. 14 I will feed them with good pasture, and on the mountain heights of Israel shall be their grazing land. There they shall lie down in good grazing land, and on rich pasture they shall feed on the mountains of Israel. 15 I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I myself will make them lie down, declares the Lord God. 16 I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, and the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them in justice.

I am glad for all the shepherds who do feed the sheep.

Here's a great message from one of those shepherds.

More Proof That It's the End of the World

Here's a link to a church in Chandler, Arizona. Not all in Chandler is bad. Mr. D and I spent a lovely week there in 1978 and on the way to my aunt's funeral in Tucson a few years ago, Chris and I had a nice lunch at the local Chipotle as we drove from Phoenix to Tucson.

I would, however, suggest that you stay away from Cornerstone Church. They are doing a new series called "Bringing Sexy Back." (I was window shopping at the Mall of America yesterday and hadn't realized that "sexy" had left us).

They even have a created a web page to go with the series. Check it out at www.howsexyami.com.

Death of a Playwright

Arthur Miller died in 2005. He had four children. One child, Daniel, he barely acknowledged while he was living. Daniel was born with Down-syndrome.

Apparently, Daniel was institutionalized immediately after birth and rarely acknowledged by his father...no birthday cards, no goodnight hugs, no holiday gatherings, no trips to the beach, no storytime...with the exception of being added to his will weeks before his (Arthur's) death. Daniel inherited millions from the father he hardly knew.

But, the story has a rather happy ending for the son. (I don't know how the father's story ended).

According to an article in Vanity Fair:

Today, Daniel Miller lives with the elderly couple who have long taken care of him, in a sprawling addition to their home that was built especially for him. He continues to receive daily visits from a state social worker, whom he's known for years. Although his father left him enough money to provide for everything he needs, Daniel has kept his job, which he loves...

The writer goes on to say:

The important part of the story, she says, is that Danny transcended his father's failures: "He's made a life for himself; he is deeply valued and very, very loved. What a loss for Arthur Miller that he couldn't see how extraordinary his son is."

Paul McCartney, The One-Man Band Singing "Young Boy"

I like this song and since the Nick Thune thing has been removed from YouTube I will replace it with this song.

Gotta love the video band.

The Tonight Show: Nick Thune's Instant Messenger love story

Enjoy!

Oops, my bad!

I've now added Nedra's link. It seems she has been blogging, but since I hadn't linked her, I had been missing her posts!

Now, if you will excuse me I have to go catch up on Nedra's posts. Making bread and sweet rolls and cracking her own Brazil nuts...yum.

A new link

I was reading blogs this morning and every now and then I read the blogs that are linked by people I know. So, I'm at Kaps Kids and I see a link to an Arika and for some reason I click on that link. I look at Arika's links and see a link to "Michael, Cari, and Family" and think to myself, "My nephew is Michael, and he is married to Cari, and they have a family.

Anyhoo, long story short, I am now adding nephew Michael's family blog link. If Michael's mom Nedra would post on her blog, I'd add her link as well!!

The Clone Army

Have I already posted this link?

I love the Relevant Pastor Blogs for Dummies part.

False Shepherds and Peace

Here's a good blog post from the Bayly brother's blog.

Here's a good quote from that post:

Just as the only object of peace within states is to safeguard people’s property, so the only object of peace within the Church is to safeguard the truth, which is its property and the treasure wherein lies its heart. And, just as it would be contrary to the purpose of peace to allow foreigners into a state to pillage it without resistance, for fear of disturbing the peace (because, as peace is only just and useful for the safeguarding of property, it becomes unjust and pernicious when it permits it to be lost and war, which can defend it, becomes both just and necessary), likewise, in the Church, when truth is injured by enemies of the faith, when attempts are made to uproot it from the hearts of the faithful, and make error reign in its stead, would it be serving or betraying the Church to remain at peace? And is it not obvious that, just as it is a crime to disturb the peace when truth reigns, it is also a crime to remain at peace when the truth is being destroyed? There is therefore a time when peace is just and a time when it is unjust. It is written: “There is time for war and a time for peace,” and it is the interests of the truth which distinguish between them. But there is not a time for truth and a time for error, and it is written, on the contrary: “The truth of the Lord endureth for ever,” and that is why Jesus Christ, who said that he had come to bring peace, said also that he had come to bring war; but he did not say that he had come to bring both truth and falsehood. Truth is therefore the first rule and ultimate purpose of things.

Progress

"We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive."

All's Well

Just to let you know, I have received notification from the person who visited my blog through a google search of "mamad's blog". Turns out I know this person in an indirect sort of way and she was checking on people she knew about who might have been involved in the bridge collapse, thought of me and came to my blog! (How sweet is that).

She happens to work for the government and didn't realize till she saw my post that the IP address would show up as navy.mil.

However, through all that I did learn that there is someone in Tehran named Mamad with a blog in Arabic. I still don't want to get mixed up with that person so will remain just plain Linda.

Gotta run now and bolt the doors, I think I hear black helicopters outside my window.

Another Goofy Test

Thanks, Mike, for this goofy test. I apparently belong in the year I was born. Must be some deep psychological thing about not wanting to grow up or something.
