Matthew 23: 8 - 10
But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ.

This is the passage I probably was (should have been) referencing in a poorly explained post of mine a while ago.
Whenever "discipling" and "mentoring" in Christian groups goes too far, and a master/servant or guru/devotee dynamic comes into play, it's a serious breach of basic New Testament teaching. Cultic groups virtually always use some sort of exaggerated "mentoring" system as a subtle means of control. And there's nothing new about it. In my view, the first Jesuits under Loyola are a good historical example of how to ignore this text.
See my (8/18/06 If We Fail To Learn From History...)for more on the interesting parallel between Loyola and contemporary authoritarian groups.
You are so brilliant.
Plus, you look real cute in your new western shirt with the rosebud print!
I love you.
