We are thinking it's time to get the family room painted and get all the books in all the piles in all our rooms on some shelves.
We want black. At this point, it looks like our choices are Linnarp and Billy. Billy has more options (widths, heights, CD shelf, etc) and is cheap. Linnarp is made of real wood.

Isn't that the one that comes in red? and with glass doors? That's the one I've been looking at!
Although Billy could be awesome too especially if you have to fill a room with them! I think whichever one you like the best is the one you should get!
Yes. The Linnarp comes in red with the doors and is very tempting. Isn't that on the cover of the catalog? However, we have started a "black" and "honey" theme in the basement so the red would throw us for a loop. But, it's lovely and makes a dramatic statement.
After I blogged, I realized that the Linnarp is over 14 inches deep and the Billy is only 11. Our room is smallish so the Billy would take up less space. However, the black Billy doesn't come in the shorter heights. Bummer, since we have a portion that has drywall over some pipes so the 79 inch Billy wouldn't fit.
I think the Linnarp looks more like "real" furniture instead of college "practice" furniture.
So, the bottom line is that I like the Linnarp for looks and the Billy for function. Ahhhh, such a hard choice!
I vote the Linnarp- it always easier to choose when someone else's dollar is being spent!
I think you should go with the billy. We have one in the darker brown and really like it. On the other hand the linnarp would be a great choice. The red color would be fun and who doesn't need that? But for me the only concern I might have would be if you did get doors for it would you end up just cramming things in there which would not help you to be organized or would you keep it neat? I might have a tendancy in time to start shoving things I am not sure what to do with in there (if you know what I mean) Either way you have to be happy with it. I say go with your gut.
I vote for the Linnarp! I like spending other people's money!
